Thanks to Singer's recent 160th anniversary celebration, I was able to pinpoint my antique machine's model year by entering its serial number into Singer's online database.Singer started to manufacture the Featherweight in 1941 and ended production in 1964 (as far as I know) The 222K model has a sleeve arm (below) and is the most sort after, however I think both models look great and still have a good stitch and sew very well for their age.The Singer feather weights were manufactured from 1941 to 1964. If you lucky enough to own one or if you're thinking of buying one, use the serial number chart below. This one is hand operated, others have an electric motor fitted.Nearly all 221 Featherweights sew well or, with minor "tune ups", can be adjusted to sew well. The real indicator of value isn't whether your sewing machine "still sews". To command top value / price a Singer 221 or 222 sewing machine needs to look great "in spite of" its age.Singer 221 Featherweights are very reliable and very straightforward to maintain.
